Welcome to our year 2 blog. This week, 2DG won the mathletics trophy! We won because we did so well on Mathletics. We were excited to hear that the chicks have grown even bigger. Mrs Evett showed us some photographs and videos of the chicks. We couldn't believe it that the chicks can fly out of a travel cot! They have changed a lot since they left year two. We have been doing lots of fun and exciting activities to keep us busy!

This has been a busy month for year 6 with SATs and the visit from Ofsted last week, but the children are still working really hard. In English, the children have been watching a series of short movies and writing film reviews about the content, providing their own personal opinion.
In Maths, the children have been studying art forms. They have learned to identify tessellations and create their own; design interesting tangrams and become familiar with parabolic lines, learning how straight lines can be used to create curved lines. We have been lucky enough to be in partnership with a Chinese teacher, who will be visiting us this week and next, to provide Mandarin lessons. So far, the children have learned to count and to follow simple instructions that are used in schools in China. Why not ask you child to show off their new language skills? The music team at East Tilbury have now started to prepare for a very busy summer term. Children in the key stage 1 and 2 star voices club are beginning to learn songs ready to perform at the Infant and Junior Thurrock Music Festivals happening over the summer term. Children have been invited to sing at the Civil Hall to perform a range of songs for a large audience. The events are always enjoyed by children and adults and prove to be an incredible learning opportunity for the children involved. You will soon be notified by a member of the music team if your child has been invited to take part. Tickets will be available to buy for both events.
Last week in year six, we have been exploring a variety of things across our curriculum. In English we were looking at biographies of famous people. We looked at how they are written and explored the features and within the second day we were already writing one about the famous Sir Ian McKellen. We related this to our class book (The Hobbit) by choosing an actor from the book and creating a biography about them. We had to research all of the information necessary for a successful biography and then create one. In Maths we have been revising in preparation for our SATs in a couple of weeks’ time, this week we focussed on: adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions. We have previously done this earlier on in the year but it has been important to revise them again because of our SATs. In science we have started to explore electricity and have come up with theories about circuits which we will be testing later on in the term.
