This term Year 1 have been focusing on the life cycle of a bean plant. At the beginning of the term we planted some beans and have been recording the growth of our beans as a class. This week, we began measuring our beans where our tallest bean plant has grown to be a staggering 30cm tall! Additionally, we have carefully examined the complex network of the roots that have entangled themselves around the cotton wool and have discussed and completed a range of activities to understand what plants need to help them grow big and strong. Year 1 have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the life cycle of a bean plant where they have expressed their excitement through discussions and various activities.

In 2MH this week we have continued looking and learning about food. In DT we made Rocky Road biscuits in groups with our teacher. We had to follow a recipe and take it in turns to follow each instruction carefully. We also learnt about food hygiene and where different foods come from around the world. In English we have been writing instructions on how to create a medicine just like in George’s Marvellous Medicine. We had to use imperative verbs to tell people exactly what to do. In Maths we have been working outside and solving lots of problems.
Healthy Schools
The ‘Big Pedal’ was a great success with a majority of the children travelling to school, where possible, by walking, riding bikes or using scooters. The bike shed was full during these 2 weeks and many of the children have continued to travel this way, enjoying the warmer mornings. During the summer term years 1, 3 and 5 have been participating in Bike-ability sessions, learning about cycling and road safety. They will receive a certificate and badge at the end of their course to celebrate their success. The school field is now in action again with P.E. sessions already make the most of the extra space and allowing the children to play football during lunchtimes. The children have also taken part in ‘Walk to School’ week. Data of how the children arrived to school each day was collected. There has been some improvement into snacks and lunches the children have been bringing to school each day but we would like to continue to improve this with year 6 helping to monitor this as part of their prefect duties. We still have Borough Olympics and Key stage 1 Cross Country to look forward to before the end of the term as well. |
