In 3SH, we have enjoyed creating our own non-chronological extreme weather reports. Once we had extended our writing skills, we then became lighting and sound technicians, camera crew and presenters in order to record our work using our new green screen equipment. We had lots of fun understanding and using the equipment and we are looking forward to editing our recordings!

We have been busy learners in Year 4, working hard to develop all sorts of skills and using them creatively. You would have already heard about our inventors’ convention at the beginning of this half term – but you really needed to have been there to fully appreciate how our confidence has grown and how brilliantly we pitched our ideas to the many visitors.

As part of our learning about states of matter and the water cycle, we designed and made our own rain gauges. We had to think about the shape of the containers we had and the different ways of making sure that the scales we developed were accurate. Some of us chose to use measuring cylinders to measure out 10ml of water, transfer this into our containers, then mark the top of the water level as 10ml. We repeated this process and created scales with intervals of 10ml. Others of us chose to create gauges that measured the depth of water, so our scales went up in centimetres instead.
We have enjoyed our library sessions this term, selecting books, enjoying reading alone or to one another. This is us when we dressed up to raise money for Children in Need earlier this month; the fun and learning continued through this special day.

PE has had a great start to the new academic year and it’s only going to get better.

All classes are currently taking part in a gymnastics or dance lessons as well as a ball skills/ invasion games lesson during the autumn term. Please ensure your child has their winter PE kit in school, as lessons will go on outside. Extracurricular sports clubs have been very popular during lunchtimes and after school, we currently are offering basketball, dodgeball, football, rugby, badminton, indoor athletics and cross country. Some of these clubs will change after Christmas so keep an eye out for the new clubs list coming soon.

Competitions are already in full swing and so far we have competed in the borough at cross country where our teams placed very highly throughout, basketball where we placed 2nd, football, rugby and netball league games are also under way with some good results popping up.  Details of all competitions and fixtures can be found on the schools website under Healthy Schools and Clubs page.

Following on from last academic year’s sporting success which finished in July. East Tilbury Primary School and Nursery had confirmation in September that we had been awarded with the School Games Silver kitemark award. This award recognises what we do as a school and celebrates our success and achievement.

We have taken part in our first whole school inter house competition in October. The first competitions is always cross country to get us set up ready for districts in November. 1st place in this inter house went to Cambridge. The next inter house competition will be football which is coming soon after the Christmas holidays. You can find full details of inter house competitions on our website- Healthy Schools and School House Teams page.

If your child competes at County, regional or national level in any sport, please can you send a letter to Mrs Russo with your child’s achievement and any trophies/ certificates they have received. We would like to celebrate children’s success outside of school by putting their achievements in our school newsletter and also our website.

Year 5

Year 5 have been hard at work this week bringing the Great War to life and showing their understanding of what the setting and surroundings would have been like for a soldier in World War 1. Life in the trenches has been our focus this week as we have written narrative pieces about a day in the life of a soldier and used our artistic expression to bring it to life in Unit of Enquiry with our propaganda posters and with our use of multiple media to create a setting scene which we later used as inspiration for our descriptive writing.
If you want to know what life was like in WW1 just ask us in Year 5!
