This half term we have looked at the United Kingdom. Some of the best work we have produced is on maps and famous landmarks. We looked into how maps are read, what symbols we might expect to find and the difference between physical and human features.
In December we focussed on narrative writing and the children produced some incredible writing. We adapted a Christmas story based on the three little pigs and showed off all of the skills we’ve learnt so far this year. We then word processed our edited stories using Microsoft Word to find tune any errors.

It is an ongoing goal to increase the healthiness of our children's packed lunches and it has been lovely to see that lots of children have at least 1 item of fruit or salad in their lunch boxes/bags. We have noticed that more children, who are having school dinners, are selecting fruit for dessert, too - well done! ![]() There have also been lots of bikes and scooters in the bike shed! It's wonderful to see that children are being active and choosing to ride/scoot to school! With regards to keeping fit, the children enjoying completing their daily mile - Here are what some of the children have said about the daily mile: Harrison: “I enjoy the daily mile because I like running. I think it is good that all the children get exercise everyday”. Enzo: “I like the daily mile because it will get you fit and ready if you are doing a tournament. Also, it is a great warm up to get your blood pumping”. Chloe: “I love to run and keep healthy. I think PE will be my hobby because it’s so fun”. We love that you enjoy doing the daily mile, keep it up! ![]() Also, have you checked out the Change4Life website yet? If not, go to www.nhs.uk/change4life. On the website you will find different healthy lunch box ideas, sugar swaps, breakfast and dinner recipes, food facts and activity ideas to stay fit! Change4Life have an app, too. Yet again, Reception and Year 1 children produced a beautiful Christmas performance this year. They worked extremely hard remembering their lines and remembering the words and actions to all of the songs. Thank you to all the parents who attended and well done again to East Tilbury children, as always you did us proud!
It may be December and the end of term could almost be in sight but Class 3JP have been making a valiant effort in refining their progress across all subjects. In our recent English lessons our objective has been to persuade. Utilising our Reading Skills story ‘A Christmas Carol’ (Dickens) we applied our learnt skills to write to Ebenezer Scrooge to advocate that Bob Crotchet should have Christmas day off from work and Tiny Tim should receive medical help. We have linked our learning in History about the Victorians to our creativity in Art lessons and have applied our knowledge of William Morris’s floral wall paper patterns to create our own festive themed designs. Additionally, we have found out how Victorian people went to school, were resourceful and creative with their games. This connected with our homework projects. Bringing things back into the present, in our recent Computing lessons we have developed and enhanced our understanding of block coding. Throughout this half term, we have considered algorithms and code from various perspectives. In last week’s lesson we experimented with debugging, the technical term for fixing broken or incomplete code. You can try it out by clicking here: https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/475483/ Solving problems has been a useful skills which we have also deployed in our Maths learning. Utilising our knowledge of the four times tables, Year 3 have begun to get familiar with the eight times tables too. This has broadened our skill base and given us opportunities to revisit multiplication, division and inverse relationships. Many of us are very excited to be using the Mathletics app in school and at home to challenge ourselves further. Last week, 3JP were one of the top three classes in school, with four children scoring in the top ten leader board.
This week has been an exciting week for out More Able and Talented provision. Miss Caton visited Southend High School for Boys to learn more about the NACE Challenge Award. This is an exciting accreditation that the school is working towards to evident the impact our MAT provision has on our pupils. During the visit Miss Caton visited lessons and spoke to pupils about their learning, the strategies, tips and knowledge learnt from the visit will enable us to progress with our accreditation and improve our MAT provision.
Some of our MAT pupils have been treated to an exciting Trailblazer workshop this week. Pupils that have shown an interest and passion for the music curriculum and MAT music pupils have been working together to learn the Indonesian instruments of Gamelan. In just a 2-hour timeframe they have already learnt the skills to play these wonderful instruments and are working together to play an extraordinary piece of music. They are also beginning to work on the puppeteering aspect of a performance, ready to share with parents next week. |
