Since completing our Key Stage 1 assessments, Year 2 have enjoyed a range of fun activities to extend our learning.

In our Foundation Subjects we have been discovering more about food.  We have tried food from other counties countries, made some rocky road and begun finding out about the process of growing, making and producing food.

In Maths, we enjoyed measuring different liquids to make our own potions.  Many of our concoctions smelt disgusting however we had a wonderful time with our friends from Year 6 helping us to accurately measure using ml and litres.

In Computing, we have utilised spreadsheets to organise and sort data.  We have planned our end of year party early this year and priced everything we wanted.  Some of us had rather expensive aspirations, the most expensive party was something close to £1,500.  We may need to think this through some more!

In 2MH this week we have continued looking and learning about food. In DT we made Rocky Road biscuits in groups with our teacher. We had to follow a recipe and take it in turns to follow each instruction carefully. We also learnt about food hygiene and where different foods come from around the world.  In English we have been writing instructions on how to create a medicine just like in George’s Marvellous Medicine. We had to use imperative verbs to tell people exactly what to do. In Maths we have been working outside and solving lots of problems.

Following previous year groups excitement surrounding investigating a teacher’s missing packet of biscuits and last year’s faux police incident, we know that Year 2 children are up for a challenge…especially around SATs season.

Have you been wondering why the school building work seems to dragging on for a while?  This half term Year 2 will be analysing videos, photos and spreadsheets to discern what is going on.  The children will be reading and responding to messages on the Google Classrooms platform as part of their learning.

Although e-safety is a frequent theme covered within Computing lessons, the experience of instant messaging within a safe virtual classroom enables learning opportunities about aspects such as appropriate use of devices, comments making and content in a way pupils have found very applicable.

If you have any questions regarding this half term’s Computing, how this relates to the broader Computing curriculum or online safety, please speak with your child’s class teacher.

We hope that you enjoy the video!

In Year 2 this half term we are learning all about alternative fairy tales and we have been really enjoying ourselves so far!

In English we have been reading ‘Trust me, Jack’s beanstalk stinks!’ We have been writing letters to the fairy tale police from the perspective of the giant explaining all the terrible crimes that Jack has done and asking for our things back. We have had some brilliant ideas and have included a lot of persuasive language, hoping for a reply soon!
n Maths we have been working hard on a few different skills such as addition, subtraction, division and fractions. We have even had a look at using the column method for the first time!

In computing we have been using the Computing Suite and going on to google classrooms to solve the mystery of the secret room which has been built in the school. We got to watch an amazing video which we enjoyed so much we have watched it more than once!
If you would like to watch it again the link is:

We have even started planning for our own hand puppets which will be based on evil, good or magical characters. When they are finished we are going to create our very own puppet shows. The plans look great, we are excited to see what they look like! Can you guess which one is which?

Last term, Year 2 started their topic about space and began learning about the solar system that we live in. In English we were learning how to effectively describe characters and settings in a story. This was in preparation for writing our own stories about space.

In Maths we have been learning to divide by 2, 5 10 and 3. We have looked at both dividing numbers and shapes and sharing them into equal parts. We have looked at what the term equal means and how it is applied to both numbers and shapes in Maths. In our afternoon lessons we have been learning about our solar systems and the planets within it.
