Merry Christmas from all of the pupils and staff in Year 1 This week in Year 6, we have been continuing writing our persuasive letters to a German newspaper. As we have studied WWII this term, we wrote our formal letters from the point of view of a German citizen, who has been exposed to the shocking propaganda of the time. Obviously, our purpose was to convince the tabloids to circulate the truth about the unfair and inaccurate portrayal of the Jews in their publication.
Throughout this half term, we have learnt all about light in science: what a light source is, how we can see, how light travels, and what refraction is. To finish our light topic, we have been truly getting into the Christmas spirit; we have created our own light art! To create our masterpieces, we used: an iPad with a camera; the slow camera app; a light source; and ourselves. Why not try creating some of your own light art at home over the holidays? Have a healthy and happy Christmas! In Year 6 this week we have been combining our artistic and IT skills to produce some moving and thoughtful works of art based on the learning we have been doing over the last 3 weeks on the Holocaust. The pupils have been shocked and appalled by the way Jews were treated by the Third Reich, Hitler’s beliefs and that the world allowed this genocide to happen to millions of people just because they were Jewish.
Learning about the Holocaust has led to some very interesting discussions about how one person can have the power to influence and convince people to make shocking choices about how they treat other people. We talked about how it is easy to be kind to others if we just think before we speak. These are a few of our art works for you to enjoy. |
